Growing Ginny: 7 months

15 lbs 6 oz, 24 inches long

I have a hard time believing my little baby is (well past) 7 months old now! I scheduled a couple of shot follow ups for her 7 month birthday, so I have her weight/height.

At 7 months she crawled, said “Dadadadada” “who, who, who” and laughed like craaaazy!

She was working on sitting (really she was just lazy and didn’t want to sit on her own, she’s over come that now). She was also practising pulling up to the coffee table in a kneeling position.

Still not eating baby food, or table food, Ginny does accept the occasional Gerber Graduate Sweet Potato Puff. I’m hoping this is not the beginnings of a picky eater. It’s not for lack of trying, she just isn’t into baby food… or… well… she likes to eat paper. lol.

I spoke with the pediatrician about the food thing, and she said that it might be that Ginny doesn’t want to take food from me, because she prefers nursing – not unlike nursing babies who refuse bottles (check!). At this same appointment Ginny was diagnosed with an ear infection though, so the pedi recommended holding off the food issue until the ear infection cleared up. I usually give her a few bits and pieces of what ever I am eating. She has been teething like CRAZY…

… at 7 months she was still at 2 teeth, just the bottom, front teeth….

…which makes her cranky, so again, I’m not forcing the food into her while she’s feeling crappy. Cold carrots do make excellent teethers though.

And that is my 7 month old baby. Generally happy, except when she has an ear infection, or teeth erupting in her mouth + mobile and moving faster every day.

growing ginny: 6 months

We’ve made it! Half a year has gone by… how ridiculous is that?! I cannot believe that this little girl used to be the tiny baby I brought home from the hospital!

She has almost doubled in weight, and has grown 6 inches! It’s, in a word, incredible! I look at her some times and just tear up a little.

That hair on her head is the hair she was born with – I can’t bring myself to cut.

And her little gummy smile is gone and now has 2 little teeth on the bottom.

She’s also this close to crawling. No joke. She moves forward about 4 inches at a time right now.

This is the room we took her to when she was just 4 days old.

*cry*

14 lbs 4 oz, 26 inches

You still love:

  • baths.
  • the silly faces your Daddy makes.
  • giggling.
  • getting up on your hands and knees.
  • sleeping in my bed.

and you still dislike:

  • sitting in the bumbo for more than a few minutes
  • baby food
  • sleeping in your crib
  • getting shots

It feels like time just flies by faster and faster! This has been the fastest 6 months of my life, and I have a feeling things aren’t going to slow down!

Ginny has also started to blow rasberries, make several consenant sounds including “dadadada” “babababa”  ”thu thu” and “tatatata” I’m trying to teacher her how to say “Ta da!” Since she has those sounds.

She is just a jump skip and a hop away from crawling. No joke, she can get pretty much any where with the moves she has now (rolling, and a choppy version of “the worm”).

Growing Ginny: 5 months old

We were a little late on getting this picture. the 13th just flew right by and it was the 16th before I realized we hadn’t taken the picture. So today, before church, we drove down to Fredericksburg to get our picture.

Yes, we got out of the house an hour earlier than needed just to take a picture.

Miracles do happen!

And we were 15 minutes early to church. Win!\

Any way, it’s so much fun for me to have these pictures to look back on. I also love that when Ginny is bigger she will have pictures of us together. Some of my favorite pictures from my infancy/childhood are of me and my Mommy.

So, at 5 months, may I present to you, Ginny:

5 months, 14 pounds

At five months old she:

  • Does not sleep through the night, or in her crib, or for period of more than 15 minutes. lol. She’s a power napper extraordinaire!
  • Rolls both directions fluently.
  • pulls her legs up under herself, in a pre-crawling position.
  • sucks her thumb like a pro!
  • Drinks from a sippy cup. Kind of.
  • Sings with me.
  • Loves the front pack carrier.
  • Enjoys long walks along the beach to the grocery store.
  • Is still mostly breastfed. She doesn’t really care for baby food mush.
  • Is finally wearing 3/6 month clothes. :)
  • reaches for things. Cups, phones, glasses on her Dad’s face, Me. That last one is naturally my favorite!
  • laughs up a storm… and makes lots of cute baby noises. The kind of noises that the sun-baby from Telletubbies makes. She is quite the chatter.
  • knows how to throw a tantrum. It’s incredible how ingrained her temperament and personality are already. She is definitely her own little person.

and umm… she’s kind of adorable. Having a baby has been really good for my self esteem. The two comments I get most often are “Wow, she looks like you!” and “What a pretty baby!”. Based on those two things, I am forced to deduce that I must be pretty too! lol.

She is truly a baby. The kind you see in movies. And it is really incredible to watch her grow and change.

3 & 4 months

One would think I would be more on top of this, but I’ve been a bit of a slacker. I have, on the other hand, been keeping up with Ginny’s baby book. Not a complete failure.

(For comparison sake, check out the pictures from the first two months of her life!)

There was no “3 month” appointment with the doctor, so I don’t have her weight or height or anything.

On her three month birthday I did a “day in the life” type thing, which is why I remember what she was doing at that point (and that it was a rainy day). That’s why the picture is so dark. Shortly after this picture it started POURING rain.

At three months Ginny was still using the potty like a champ, taking long naps in her swing, and smiling like a champ!

At four months we did have an appointment. We got smart after the last appointment and took the picture BEFORE the shots:

Ginny @ 4 months; 12 lbs 5 oz, 25 inches

I can’t believe my baby has grown Approx. 5 inches! I’m sure there is some error in the process, babies are scrunchy when they come out, and older babies resist having their limbs pulled. But still, five inches!!!

At four months Ginny has hit TONS of milestones. She was rolling over from front to back, back to front, and in both directions. She was sleeping in her own bed (that didn’t last long), and she now refuses to sleep on her back. It always makes my heart jump a little when I tip-toe into her room with her limp body in my arms, I unwrap her blankets, and gently set her in her crib… just for her to unceremoniously flip onto her stomach while I hold my breath hoping she stays asleep.

At almost 5 months old she is still in 0-3 month clothes, but the doctor says she is trending just below the 50th percentile perfectly. I guess consistency is more important than where the numbers fall.

She also laughs now. It is a fleeting sound that doesn’t happen very often, but when it does she sounds just like her Mama.

It makes me so happy.

Tonight I have a headache. The kind of headache that makes everything seem like a mountains’ worth of work. Dinner? Who knows, I don’t really feel like doing much of anything, but thankfully B-man is home, so maybe he has some ideas?

milestones: front to back

Just a quick update tonight. We spent the day at B-man’s parents’ home. The men worked out  side while the ladyfolk were inside. Ginny and I were doing some tummy time, and Uncle S walked in. When I looked back down she was on her back. Thinking it was a fluke I put her on her tummy again…and she rolled over again! We called Brandan inside, I pulled out my camera and… she did it one last time!!!  It seems so weird but I was so proud of her! So, here’s a little video!

It’s kind of crazy that she is only three months old and already doing crazy things! She can almost go from back to front too, she is almost sitting up on her own, and if I had the patience to hold her fingers all day long she would be walking! I have plans for a “3 month” update but that won’t be happening until Monday at the earliest.

2 months

I am combining the first two months of baby developments because… she was mostly the same until she was different. lol. Now she is definitely different, so now I have something worth sharing!

At birth Ginny was 7 lbs 8 oz and 20 inches long, just for comparison’s sake.

four days

6 lbs 15 oz          20 inches

Four Days Old

I call you my sweet baby.

You hate hats and head bands, which is sad because you would look so cute with a bow in that hair!

You’re already holding your head up like a pro!

one week

7 lbs 2 oz            20 inches

One Week Old

We call you Ginny, Virginia, and B-man calls you Stinkopatamus.

You fall asleep in the car but don’t stay asleep once we arrive.

You also hate the $100+ swing we bought.

This was the beginning of your brush with thrush.

My milk had still not come in but you didn’t want to nurse. It was a rough time.

two weeks

I can’t find the numbers for your two week appt. I just found this picture, so I will have to come back and edit it when I find that sheet of paper.

one month

9 lbs 2 oz    21 inches long

One Month Old

You like the swing now! Thank goodness.

When conditions are right, you sleep 6+ hours in a row!

You like to look at the mobile while we change your diaper.

We don’t wind it up yet, because you are actually staring at the shadow on the wall.

Your hair is still unmanageable, but very cute!

Hate the carseat. Big bummer.

You finally moved out of “newborn” clothes and into 0-3 month sizes!
It was a bitter sweet day as I packed away your littlest clothes!

two months

10 lbs 15 oz.        23 inches long

You’re screaming in this picture because you just got vaccines.

Sorry sweet baby.

For a baby, you are very independent.

Ginny Enjoys:

Batting at the toys hanging in the baby gym.

Being swaddled.

The $15 mobile that I almost returned to wal*mart but instead placed over the changing table.
We wind that sucker up and you like to watch just the flower spin around your head.

B-man’s faces. I love hearing happy baby squeals coming from your room when he changes your diaper.

Looking at the dogs. Only Zuko is brave enough to come near your, but I can
sense the budding relationship between you two. It is very cute.

You like sitting in the water for your bath, but really hate it when we try to wash you off.

Eating. But really, who doesn’t?

For the first time today I took you into the shower, and you smiled as the water rained down on us.

Ginny does not enjoy:

burping.
Actually… she really hates it.

 The car seat.

Things that make Mom & Dad happy:

The smile. It is the best reward.

As soon as we set you on the changing pad and start winding up the mobile you quiet up,
then you smile while the mobile goes round. It’s adorable.

I like watching you sleep. You smile a lot in your sleep, and then you will make a sucking action,
and something a really cute pouty face.

When you “talk”. Even if you are complaining,
it is a lot more tolerable than crying.
You make little coo sounds, and lots of “ah!” and “Awg” sounds.
