I have a new idea. Once a week I am going to write a note, and then post it here. Some times I feel like my typing is just boring, and so to spice things up I’m throwing in some hand writing. Think of it as a letter to you, but I didn’t need to find my stamps. If you ever feel inspired enough to respond with a hand written note, I will be happy to link to it! So, for your reading pleasure:
Of course, I do want to make this accessible, so if you use a text reader, or are on a smaller screened computer, click through for the text version. This is also to clarify any words that may be difficult to read.Hello!
My name is Jessica and I am 22 years old. I think you can tell a lot about a person by their hand writing – so I wanted to write a little note to all those who waste time reading my blog, and share a bit more about myself.
I have been blogging since 2003, but it was only three years ago that I started One Shiny Star. I felt like there were so many good bloggers out ehre, but I am different, and unique, the problem w/ a name like Jessica is, well… it is not unique. So I wanted my blog to reflect tat, among a million stars – I am the shiny one. Comments completely make my day, and once my summer classes are done, I promise to be better at returning the love. I promise!
Since B-Man is out of town I’ve been blaring the *country* music. I grew up listening to country, so it takes me back. I’m definitely a big fan of old school Billy Ray Cyrus and Tim McGraw, but I also love Josh Turner.
A little more about me? I plat the piano, and I started in second grade. I also played the flute in high school. I started singing at 10 years old, and since that point I was ranked number 3 out of 50 Altos and number 11 our of 50 sopranos at All-Europe honors choir in 2006. I also performed at Carnegie Hall in 2007. I took many years of voice lessons, but they don’t fit in my schedule anymore. It makes me feel like I’ve given up something I really love, but I know that I can go back to it. I can’t wait to sing to my future children.
Thanks for reading, and don’t judge my handwriting too much! Have a wonder-filled Thursday!
Always & Forever,
Jessica @ One Shiny Star

I like seeing your handwriting! Good idea. I used to listen to country music back in the day – (which means a LONG time ago!) – it was about the same time I began drinking coffee, and my husband thinks they are somehow linked
I’ve kept the coffee habit but given up country music. But I still love Billy Ray Cyrus!

Right on about the country music, Kenney Chesney is one of my favorites. You should compete in next years American Idol.

I wish I could sing. Instead when I sing in my house my cat comes up to my and tries to bite my face. No joke. My husband thinks it’s hilarious. I do too now, but I say dont give up on singing or music if it’s a passion of yours.

Cute post! I love some good old school country now and again. “Don’t Take the Girl” has got to be one of my all-time favorite songs!
Sad to hear that you aren’t able to sing anymore. I was always in choir in high school and college, but I haven’t been in a singing group in seven years now. I miss it. But like you I haven’t really found a good way to keep it up. (And I’m not as talented as you – I’m a choir person, not a soloist!)
Have a good weekend!

What a lovely idea to post a handwritten note. Melissa over at “So about what I said” does that sometimes too. It’s great to learn more about you. I hope you are able to find room for your passions and i hope that the things that time up the time singing once did offer you the same kind of joy! have a great day.
PS: happy SITS saturday

I love Josh turner. He is so much shorter than I thought he was. We saw him with Sara Evans.

I think you have great handwriting! Mine is awful so I try to have it be seen by the least number of people possible. I think this is a great feature to run and I have so much to comment on! I think I’ll focus in on the voice lessons. I took them for several years as well, although it sounds like you would put me to shame, and I auditioned for Young Ambassadors at BYU but didn’t make it. Basically my voice lessons just made me a really good lullaby singer, which is okay. I’m looking forward to the time when my son can appreciate my songs a bit more. I make up funny ones for him all the time but he doesn’t even seem to care!

Honestly, that is the singing I look forward tot he most. My little sister is 10 years younger than me, and when she was little I would sing her to sleep! Plus, I wouldn’t take not being accepted to a choir to mean you’re not good, it just means you weren’t exactly what they were looking for – and that might be a good thing!
