20 week ultrasound

My 20 week ultrasound was scheduled for Friday, February 25. The appointment was at 10:00 am. So I woke up at 9 in the morning and drank the 12 ounces of water that they had asked me to drink prior to going to the office.

Throwing up cold water is probably the best thing you could ever throw-up. By the way… just in case you wondered. Also – very strange feeling. (Total throw-up count is 3x/20 weeks)

So then I had to drink more water. I decided to do this a little more slowly.

The first part of the ultrasound was a little uncomfortable. Mostly because I had a rather full bladder, but I guess it makes it easier to get the images of the cervix. As soon as the technician was done with those pictures she let me go use the restroom before continuing. I don’t know if that is standard practice, but I thought it was very thoughtful, and showed how conscious they are about the client’s comfort.

I have a video I really want to share, as mentioned before, but it has my (very unique) maiden name in it, and that is something I have been trying to avoid posting on my blog. I’m still trying to figure out how to edit put something in the video to block that part. Once I do that – I’ll be sharing. 🙂

In the mean time… here are some non-moving pictures of our little bean!

And those three little lines mean that we are having a

baby girl!

While I had wanted to not find out the gender until the birth, my Mom convinced me that it would be better to know ahead of time. While we are sharing this information, we will not be sharing any information on names. Partially because we don’t have anything picked out, partially because I want to meet the kiddo before we name her, and partially because I don’t want people to try and comandeer the naming process by convincing me one way or another about certain names. We will probably be using family names, but that too is up for changing!

Continue the fun!

    Happy dance time!

    1. Now my greatest fear is that my house will be over-run with pink stuff! lol. Glad I could help brighten up your day!

    1. Especially since I really wanted a girl! lol. Not that I would be any less happy with a boy, but I grew up with sisters, so a baby girl is definitely more familiar to me. 🙂

  2. Congrats on a little girl! They are a lot of fun (so are boys). 🙂 I hope that the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly.

We shared our oldest child's name before hand (she was named after someone dear to me and there was no chance of changing our minds). The other two we waited to find out gender and we chose a couple of each for the second baby and waited to meet her to give a final decision. The last we dubbed 'Ehud' until the end because we couldn't choose a boy name and thought many wouldn't like our girl name (we loved it), but have found generally people keep their opinions to themselves once the baby is officially named!

    1. That is what I figured. Once you have names the baby and it is official… no one is going to say anything rude.

    1. That's quite the compliment. I have never been one to think ultrasounds… or even newborn babies… are cute. It does look like she's gone chubby cheeks in one of the pictures though – a wee bit cute. I tend to think newborns look like aliens though. lol. I'm prepared to admit that my baby might be one of them. lol!

  3. I agree on the name thing, a friend of mine is 8 months (not sure in weeks) along and the names are already picked and they have things embroided in the name. I feel you should give a chance for the child to be here. I remember watching this TV series years ago and the woman had already picked a name, but he child had a really hard time at birth and it was lucky she survived. So she named her daughter Rose because when she turned that color they knew she'd be ok. While I wish to know one to go through any struggle (and it was TV anyway). It made me realize that I'd rather wait, have some names picked but wait until that little one shows up because there might be something that happens that makes you change your mind, a name that doesn't fit with that sweet face, etc.

Anyhow. I think when we have kids that I'd rather wait, one because why not have the suprise, there is so little things we get to be surprised about when it comes to having kids it seems. And two because I don't want to be overloaded with color themed things before the child comes.

    1. I am glad that we found out. It makes it seem even more real. I want to wait on the names because I don't want to know what people think. It is good to share some names, so that they can help you think of the ways the name could be made fun of. So I have shared names with co0workers, or people who don't know my family and friends. That way they can help me not pick an easily made fun of name, while still keeping the names a relative secret. 🙂
