day 9: some one you love

On Sundays we visit my family. My grandparents, my parents, and four siblings all live together, and for the time being it is incredibly convenient to go visit every one. It’s the biggest reason we moved to Virginia… so that Virginia could be with her family. lol.

When I saw the day’s topic though, I figured I would just get a picture of my husband holding my baby… but then day 9 fell on a Sunday and it seemed like the perfect reason to take a family picture… a big family picture.

So I gather everyone on the front stoop, set up my tripod and made all of the adjustments on the camera. Then I set the timer and ran into the picture myself.

I did that about 6 times. After trying to find one where all of the dogs were in the right position, I gave up and just chose the one where all of the people were looking at the camera.

In this picture there are four generations and three dogs.

Zuko is the dog refusing to sit for the picture.

But there you have it, my big crazy family that I love so much!

day 8: a bad habit

I have very dark hair. That much is obvious. For those of you who don’t have dark hair you may not understand what a nuisance this is. ALL of my body hair is dark. Head, eyebrows, upper lip, arm pits, legs and ummm… lady bits too. This means I cannot even fathom wearing a swimsuit unless I have shaved THAT day, as soon as an eyebrow hair starts to grow it looks like a black dot, and my arm pits pretty much always look dirty.

This is life.

When I was younger though, I was very anti-plucking. I had been shaving my legs since I was 10. No one informed me that once you start you have to keep doing it. Shortly after my legs I started in on the pits. But I had wild-woman eyebrows well into 9th grade. My Mama had been trying to pluck them, or at least convince me to pluck them for several years by that point, but I thought my eye brows looked just fine.

Unfortunately for me they were not just fine, rather… they were more uni-brow than not.

I don’t remember the exact moment, but I know that I saw another girl’s eye brows at high school… and it suddenly dawned on me just how aweful my eyebrows really were.

So I went home and tried to pluck them myself.

Then I cried, gave up, and finally let my mom do what she had been begging to for years. Then I took over and turned them into when looked like pencil-drawn eyebrows. It wasn’t until I graduated high school that I realized they should be a little thicker.

Now I have a more natural look, but every now and again one side gets shorter than the other because I have a hard time telling myself to set the tweezers down!

And there you have it! My bad habit is over-plucking. Some times I tell B-man to hide the tweezers so that I can get my shape back. lol.

day4: green

Today was a really busy day. I went to the Mom & Baby group, then to a friends house, to the doctor’s office, Target, and then to a yoga class… where I ended up being the only student signed up for the class!

I had intended to take a picture of my new green yoga mat, but my day was kind of busy. Instead we had a green inspired tummy time.

When in doubt, use baby.

She’s actually watching the TV flicker… and then she is moving because I am in front of the TV.

LOOK AT THOSE CHEEKS!

lol.

day3: clouds

I am not a photographer. Faaar from it. I used to have a plan old point and shoot camera that my grandmother gave me for my birthday one year. Some how, it took amazing pictures, but I don’t really know why.

Sadly that camera started going down hill last Christmas. Pictures would have weird lines through them, and files would randomly go missing. For my birthday I upgrade to a newer, shinier, bigger camera. Not a DLSR, but heftier than a point & shoot. I can easily adjust the settings, aperture and shutter speed, and attach a flash if I needed to. Unfortunately, when I bought the camera I really had no idea how to use any of these things… I just wanted a “nice” camera to take pictures of my baby with. Since I didn’t know how to use my camera until maybe… a month ago… the first 2 months of Ginny’s life are documented, but rather poorly.

I’ve finally figured out how to use all of the buttons. I still have to consentrate to remember if I should be making the aperature number bigger or smaller, same goes for the shutter speed… but I’m getting better! So much so that I felt inclined to buy a tripod. Woot!

I waited all day to take this picture. Every time I walked past a window I would peek outside and be sorely disappointed by the mass of grey sky covering my view. Thankfully, an hour before sunset, the skies opened up!

This is the view from my parking spot. lol.

Today was an eventful day. B-man had his first day “on the job” at his new place of work. *yah* for orientations! Then I acted as a responsible pet owner and got both of my dogs vaccinated (buh bye $350!).

I also signed up for a post-partum yoga class. When I called to sign up they said I needed a doctor’s note. I said “My baby is 3 months old…” but it didn’t matter. So I called my OBGYN and the receptionist asked “so when was your baby born?”  ”July.” I responded. She also thought it was ridiculous. Oh well. I am starting a yoga class tomorrow! Wish me luck!

Day2: what I wore today

I am going to admit this to you all, because I know there is no judgement in the blogosphere. *scoff*

I didn’t get dress until 4 pm. I got out of bed at 9…. and I’m not really sure what I did between 9 and 4. Thank goodness it’s a Sunday!

I’m in love with this yellow belt, and I’m trying to make it work with everything. Every day I get dressed and try the belt on with whatever I’ve put on. Then I go to the office and ask my husband if it works. He has started saying “yes”, but I think it is because he is over me asking about the belt, and not because it looks good. lol.

Actually… that’s a lie. My husband often tries to give me fashion advice, which is rich coming from a man who owns the same polo shirt in 10 different colors/patterns. But he does his best!

Also, I am using a new liquid eyeliner today.

The thing about liquid eyeliner is… when it is good it looks GREAT, but if you mess up even just a tiny bit… you end up ith black paint all over everything. It’s just one of those love-hate things I guess!

Day 1: Self Portrait

So I was inspired by Meg’s awesome self-portrait and decided last minute to join the 30-day photography challenge. So here is my self-portrait:

I realize that a self portrait is supposed to be just a picture of you – but this is more a picture of me in my life, since I currently have Ginny glued to me almost every second of the day.

I also need to invest in a tripod… and maybe one of those clicky picture taking remote things. That will have to wait until Monday though.

Ahoy!

I am starting a new adventure. This blog. This month. This has been my first adventure. I didn’t think I would be able to keep it up, but I have been actively posting for about a month now. I intend on keeping that up. But now, the new…revisited… adventure.

I have had many failed attempts at Project 365. I think I have tried it two times already. I always start off well. But then it kind of tapers off. Well. I am going to do it. I know, it’s almost March. BUT, thanks to this blog, and my desire to have a photogenic blog, and not a boring blog… I have taken a picture every day this month (even if you all haven’t seen them, or they’ve been crammed into one day.). So, I am starting my 365, as of February 1st. And I will do it for a year. Until next February 1st. I know I will miss days. That’s ok. But hopefully I will be able to look back and be pleased with what I have accomplished.
If you are on flickr, and want to be my contact, then add me. If you want to see my Project 365 then go here! I’ve almost got a whole month, which is more than I have ever had before!
