Vlog – Internship

I don’t have time to put captions in right now, so I will just type the text to this vlog below the video.

PS: Currently, as of 1:35 am this video has not been processed, so it may not be viewable until later. It will load though. I promise.

Hello, I want to make a short vlog about my first day of internship. I’m excited to start working because I know it will be a good experience. I met my mentor today and she seems very positive, supportive and motivating. So I’m excited to work with her.

I think my experience is going to be varied, some hard and some easy. It’ll be good. I’m working at the Office of Disability Services here at UT. And some classes are graduate level, while some are more basic, so that should be good (classes I might interpret in).

I really a bit worried because I need to make a “Portfolio” but I don’t have all of the papers that I need for it. Like, I need some homework from three years ago. I saved then but before the beginning of the semester I did some cleaning and I think I threw them away, now I don’t have them. I need to do them again.  I think it should be easy because it’s from three years ago… right?

I’m sorry I haven’t made a lot of vlogs, but I have been busy this summer. But hopefully I can make more because I think if I’m working in sign, then I will vlog in sign more. Thanks, and have a good night!

VLOG: Four Things To Share

It’s been a while since my last Vlog. Since I had to get my internship application finished today, my hair was looking decent and I had make-up on, so I figured I would take advantage of it and make another blog. I really am going to get better at this… next semster? lol. This summer is going to be busy, but to find out how busy you’ll have to watch the Vlog. No worries, you don’t need to know sign language because I’ve included sub-titles!

I hope you enjoy watching these, because I enjoy the chance to practice my sign language. Leave some comment love if you watch the whole thing!

Gooooooood… morning?

It’s technically morning now, but it wasn’t a few minutes ago. Boo.

Here’s five minutes of my life!

And it’s true. I do love a good cake wreck! I don’t think I will do too many of these videos in color… I think the black and white make my skin look nicer, but… we’ll see. I had been blow-dryer-less for over two weeks! Yes… lots of pony tails.
Now it’s off to bed, middle school in the morning!

Finding the Balance…

So I’m trying to find a good balance of blog postings… I could probably blog all day… 20 times a day. But, I know no one would want to read all of that. I also know that I would love to make Video-blogs 20 times a day. Ignore that fact that there isn’t enough time in my life to do that.

I’ve kind of decided that blogging once a day is acceptable, and then posting two or three videos a week (at the max) is good too. Since it is something that really does help me practice, I don’t want to get sick of it. lol.
So, here’s a new video, just a short bit of what I did today, and some things I did yesterday. I know that my blog/vlog entries might overlap, but if you really don’t like watching them… you don’t have to! lol.

I hope every one had a wonderful St. Patty’s day, and I’ll catch ya tomorrow… after I’ve been go-go-going all day! Yippeeeee!

The Big Purchase!

Hello, so here’s another signed blog entry for you!

B-man and I really did search high and low for this item, but I find kind of amusing is that I really was the driving force in this. I think he was nervous about spending money, especially since I am usually saying “no” to $50 video games. But, it was time, and we were ready! I think he’s definitely happy with the purchase now… he’s been playing his video games on it!
Next item on the expensive list? A couch.
What are some things on your wishlist that you are hoping to buy soon?

Post 1: The Webcam

I figured I would break this up into two posts since I don’t want to talk about my pet peeves and my new webcam at the same time!
Yesterday after I had finished volunteering at TSD’s middle school, I went to Office Depot. I went there spicifically to buy a webcam. I have been wanting one for almost 6 months now, so I decided it was time. Disregard the fact that I also bought a chair… because… that wasn’t on the list.
I did some research before making this purchase, as all good buyers do. And I had decided on buy this sucker!
The Logitech Webcam C600. At Office Depot this one cost About $70, but because I was in the market for a good webcam, and not just a decent one, I was prepared to spend the money. Then, just for kicks, I asked the sales guy what he thought about the available options. And he pointed me to this little number.
Lifecam Cinema. It is a Microsoft product. I am not usually one to steer away from products specifically because of a name, but ya know…Microsoft is more of a “computer program” company than a “quality webcam” company. But, the sales guy showed me that not only did it meet the same specs, but some of them were better than the Logitech. Well… ok. I can go with that.
Plus, this one was on sale. And newer. And (in my opinion) prettier. So, I did it. So much for preparing.
After a little snag with figuring out the associated software (The auto-focus is a nice feature, but when it keeps refocusing in the middle of a SIGNED video, it’s almost useless, and hindering. ummm… the instructions were completely useless. If you buy this… you have to unclick the “TrueColor” option, to be able to see the properties window. At that point you can adjust the focus and other elements of the product. Who knew?! ), I am really loving it. It takes great video, as demonstrated in my previous blog video. I really needed something that was going to more than just “justice” for my signing. I needed a camera that would take crisp, big, video, and this definitely does. It also takes a pretty good picture, at 5mega pixels, it’s the same size as some point&shoot cameras.
A lot of the extra features are pretty silly, but fun. I also got to webcam-chat with some one for the first time yesterday and that was really neat too, since we were able to sign to each other.
Over all, I am pleased with my purchase, but I wish that the software was a bit more intuitive, or that the instructions where a little bit more clear.

Here's a special new treat!

So, I’ve been thinking about this a lot for the past week, and I really think I want to include some signed messages in my blog. I know that most of the people that follow my blog are of the hearing variety though, so I have tastefully and carefully captioned every little bit of this, so that it is accessible to any one! I hope you thoroughly enjoy the first installment of Jessica’s signed VLOG!

Drop me a line and let me know what you think of this “new” mode of communication. Do any of you know a bit o’ sign?

Words cannot explain…

Tonight I went to a football game at TSD (Tennessee School for the Deaf) and it was….interesting. The team lost, but I didn’t watch much of the game because I was watching all of the people sign. When I paused to stop “listening” it wasn’t very loud, but inside my head I could “hear” all of the people signing. It was really interesting. :D I liked it a lot. I have a few deaf friends, and I didn’t realize until tonight how much easier signing is for me, compared to the other kids in my class. About 5 people from my sign class game to the game, and they all kept looking at me, expecting me to help them out if they didn’t understand, and I did, but something else I started doing was even when i was talking to speaking people, I would sign. YEAH! I like it a lot.
